A little more development...

Another character:

Item and tool design:

Some new tile designs:

Putting a couple of bits together:

2D scenery

For some scenery including my character I though I'd go for a similar style to games like 'Rayman Legends' by Ubisoft, using layers of backgrounds to make a diverse and appealing piece of scenery. This work in progress is a simple jungle scene, but I need to figure out what art style would work best with the character.

Final Tribesman Design

Taking the exact procedures that I had explained in the last post I created what can hopefully be the final draft of the character. This canvas is 256 by 256 pixels so I had to resize it  to the smaller size.
I resized the drawing by half with both smooth and hard edges:

Hard:

Smooth:

Again! Again! AGAIN!

I think I may of finally cracked the case on the ideal figure for this character, observing this timeline we can see the frustrating though process:

On the most recent (far right) attempt, I have trimmed off some of the fur collar and already the character is making more sense and looking less cluttered. He has a bean-shaped body and I have given him stick arms again just like in the first design, which seems to work a lot better. So now I'm going to try a design with no fur collar and replace it with some sort of tooth necklace.

Even Smaller Tribesman

I'm drawing this character as if he could take place in some sort of low resolution side-scrolling game. He has too much detail on him so i didn't want to go low on the pixels, but at the same time give it a nice retro feel. So I went for a 128x128 canvas and I'm still trying to get him right:

<- This is my original small Tribesman I made on a 256x256 canvas, which isn't too bad for resolution but I thought I would try a little smaller so its easier to make the tile sets for environment and item graphics.
Here is a smaller and less orientated design, his figure is all wrong however

This one is another test but somehow I'm just not seeing any significant shape in this character

Here is just larger one, shrunk down and drawn over again, not much more successful than the previous try

Skyping and Sketching

Whilst I was Skyping with my girlfriend I took a sneak screenshot for a picture to draw (just to let you know, its not what it looks like she's doing). I later presented it to her, she loved it and she allowed me to post it on my blog:

Pixelly Tribesman

I tried designing the same tribesman from a front, slightly higher point of view on a 32x32 canvas:
I felt like I wanted to make is bigger so I redesign it over the smaller one on a 128x128 canvas:

Little Tribesman

The Tribesman was originally for my uni work for a thin character design. This is his original turn around (on paper):

I then drew a more HD version giving him weapons and colour:
Then I decided to then try a 'Tiny Thief' style drawing on a smaller canvas of 256x256:

Quite frankly this style turned out pretty well:

16-Bit Monsters

Making a scene...

I decided to take the 16-Bit RPG game graphics further and create a few terrain graphics and make a scene out of it. First I created some building materials through a tileset:

Then I created a potential scene for the game:

16-Bit RPG Character

I want to try out some simple graphics for a 16-Bit game. Some sort of survival horror or adventure RPG. I created a layout for the figure:

Then I drew over it making a brunette male adventurer/ survivalist with a large backpack, i tried out some poses:

Then I made a couple of actions that the character could possibly do:

 Walking
