My first Photoshop work

This is an old piece of work from about Christmas time, when i had just learnt how to draw on photoshop. I quite a sci-fi fan so one of my first works only seemed natural to be a giant robot with some sort of cannon:

1) I first started by creating a basic shape of the character, taking no attention to detail and just trying to get the pose right.
2) I then designed the robot, giving him all the little details he needed, drawing with a thicker and more opaque brush than the rough sketch.
3) I then pin-pointed where the shading would be strongest from my chosen source of light, and blocked them out in very dark grey.

4) I then completed the rest of the shading, using lighter shades of grey, and highlighted certain areas using white.
5) The colour was then added, only the base tones.
 6) Then the colour was refined and certain details were added including adding embers to the jets at the back and blue smoke coming from the gun.
 7) The light source was then added and dust was layered along the ground.
8) I then added the ground and the background rocks. I also added a haze of light in the background to represent perhaps burning wreck in the distance.
9) A few more touches and its done.
