The Caveman

Here I was practising block shading from a character I had originally used for a 16-bit game call 'Congregation'. Here was all about simplicity and strong colours:

 1) I started off with a rough sketch, are character wields a good old fashioned wooden club and has leopard patterned clothing. Not to forget the brick shaped head.
 2) I then drew in some details over the rough sketch, the pixelated version of the character had no ears, nose or mouth and I wanted to keep that style for this high quality version.
 3) I then did the fine line sketch, added all the details including the leopard spots and the distinctive hairs on his arm.
 4) I then begun filling in the skin, including the shades and highlights. Remembering not to create gradient shading, and make it sharp and strong.
 5) I then added in the colours for the rest of the details.
6) Finally, I added shading and highlighting to the rest of the details on the character.
